Zamparelli targets maiden win at Hungary

Brit confident ‘it’s all coming together now’

Rookie Dino Zamparelli says his first F2 season is 'all coming together now' and that he can't wait to get back out in Hungary and chase down his maiden win.

The 19-year-old currently lies eighth in the drivers' standings following an encouraging start to his season which has seen him score points in all but two races. At Brands Hatch last month the Brit claimed his maiden podium and continued to impress at a sweltering Paul Ricard where he secured fourth and sixth places, despite being new to the French circuit.

"I only had the two sessions on Friday to learn the track so to qualify sixth and fifth and only be a few tenths off pole isn't too disastrous!" said Zamparelli. "I want to be fighting for the top qualifying positions though as I still haven't claimed a pole yet. However, I have to recognise the improvement and that slowly and surely my qualifying times are getting better."

Given his overall pace, Zamparelli was disappointed not to have come away with a second podium during the opening race at Paul Ricard but was still able to take positives from it. "In recent races, I haven't been able to stay with the leaders; whether that was excessive tyre wear on my part or because I couldn't quite match the leading packs' pace. However, here in the race, I actually started to catch the leaders and at certain stages I was the quickest guy on track so there are plenty of positives to take out."

Race two also proved frustrating at times with Zamparelli having to use several boosts in order to stay in contention with the cars ahead. "Overall I feel content with the weekend," says Zamparelli. "I didn't quite make the podium on either occasion despite having the pace. At Brands Hatch I made the podium but didn't really have the pace to win. Here however, I had the pace to win but couldn't make the podium!

"Nonetheless, I can feel it all coming together now and I can't wait to get back out in Hungary in September to chase down that first win! I have to say a big thank you to all my sponsors such as Botellino's Restaurants in Bristol, Core and Ore and SBW."

Rounds 13 and 14 of the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship take place at the Hungaroring on 7-9 September.
