What they said: Brno First Qualifying
Dean Stoneman, Nicola De Marco and Sergey Afanasiev offer their views on the first qualifying session in the Czech Republic

Dean Stoneman took his fourth pole position in qualifying for todays first Formula Two race. He just edged out Nicola De Marco who went well here last year, and Sergey Afanasiev who has been quick all weekend. Here's what the top three had to say:

Dean Stoneman:

I went out there to get pole but I didn't expect to get that lap out there on a difficult track. The first corner is nearly 180 degrees so trying to get on the power makes the car understeer quite a lot. I was just chipping away at the session trying to get a quick lap and it's another new track for me I only did 19 laps yesterday but it's been pretty good.

Yesterday morning was wet and it's quite difficult to learn a track in the wet, bed the brake pads in and set the car up. Going into practice two yesterday I had a better feel for the car because the track was drying but the car wasn't 100 per-cent right. Last night I sat down with my engineer and changed a few little things on the car and first qualifying this morning was really good.

I'm fairly confident, earlier in the season I wasn't the greatest at the starts but now hopefully I've got that sussed. My aim is to win but obviously finish in front of Jolyon and Philipp.

Nicola De Marco:

Obviously it would be better to be on pole position like last year but second place isn't bad. It was a little difficult because I made a mistake in the first corner on my fastest lap but the lap time was very close with Dean so congratulations Dean, but second place is good for the race.

I've finished in the points in the last four races but in Monza and Marrakech I didn't score so not as good but I hope to do well in the two races here because I really like this track. But in the second qualifying I hope to get pole position.

Sergey Afanasiev:

It's nice and calm and the weather is fantastic because it's not as hot as in Moscow so I am enjoying it. In the qualifying I did well in the first few minutes but the second part of qualifying was a bit of a problem for me - I struggled a bit - and I hope we can change something on the car before the second part of qualifying to help me. I made some mistakes on setting up the car it's just my fault.

But there are only two drivers in front of me so I can follow them in the beginning and I do my best.
