Formula Two's maiden visit to the Hungaroring produced two
entertaining races that set the championship title up for a
thrilling season finale at Monza later this month (28-30
September).
Swiss racer Alex Fontana secured the honours in an incident-packed
opening race to claim his first F2 win. After moving up to P2, the
Swiss/Greek racer produced a superb overtake on race-leader Kevin
Mirocha into Turn 1 to steal victory away from the Pole. Joining
Fontana and Mirocha on the podium was championship leader Luciano
Bacheta who benefited from several on track incidents to finish
third.
Race two saw Markus Pommer power away from pole to take the
chequered flag for his third win of the season - finishing a full
16s ahead of second-place Mathéo Tuscher. Third place went to Dino
Zamparelli who picked up a deserved second podium of the year after
moving through the field early on. The result now leaves three
drivers vying for the title at Monza with Bacheta enjoying a 33.5
point advantage over Tuscher with Pommer also in the running.
F2 fans can now relive all the action from the Hungaroring on F2TV
with race highlights of rounds 13 and 14. Meanwhile, the final
rounds of the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship take place at
Monza, Italy on 28-30 September with full coverage on the F2
website.
