Tom Gladdis bullish on race two prospects
Briton in uncompromising mood ahead of Sunday's finale
Tom Gladdis is in bullish mood ahead of this afternoon's final
race at Brands Hatch, as the Briton looks to continue an extremely
impressive return to Formula Two.
The 19-year-old contested the opening event of the season at
Silverstone, but has since struggled with budget issues - meaning
this weekend is his first taste of racing action in exactly three
months.
Despite that break Gladdis has been in impressive form from the
outset at Brands Hatch, qualifying fifth and running fourth for
much of the first race before eventually settling for fifth at the
chequered flag.
Gladdis could then well have taken pole position in the second
qualifying session on Saturday - his best effort, which would have
been good enough for provisional pole - ruled out after a red fag
had been issued four seconds before he crossed the line.
Despite the setback Tom bounced back to take third, and the
Briton is in uncompromising mood ahead of the race, saying: "Target
wise I want to be in the top three. The start is the biggest moment
though, and I'm definitely looking to make up a place or put
pressure on Eng and Kazim in the first two corners.
"I know Eng for example needs to be on his best behaviour,
whereas I'm out there simply to race and to get as high as I can.
I've got no worries about the championship, so I can afford to just
push for the best result possible.
"To be honest it has been quite nice having that feeling this
weekend - it's been more about having fun and enjoying myself
because there's no pressure. That said pole was probably possible
yesterday until the red flag, so there's a bit of disappointment
even in qualifying third - I guess that's just being a racing
driver though!"
Gladdis will be bidding for his maiden F2 win when the
second race begins today (18 July) at 13:05 BST - with live
commentary, live timing and live video streaming available through
the official F2 website.
