Snoeks hails recovery after drive to seventh
Dutchman happy to bounce back from breaking ankle just three weeks ago
Kelvin Snoeks hailed his speedy recovery from a broken
ankle, as the Dutchman put the seal on his return to F2 by sealing
seventh in the opening race at Brno - his second best result of the
season.
Snoeks suffered his injury just three weeks ago after a scooter
accident, and despite bearing the scars to attest to the collision
he was delighted to return to racing in the Czech Republic, having
been forced to sit out the previous round at Brands Hatch.
Snoeks, 22, was justifiably delighted with both his speedy
recovery and his subsequent race result, saying: "I am really happy
that I recovered so quickly which nobody expected. A lot of people
thought I wouldn't make it back this quickly because it's only
three weeks since I broke my ankle, but I worked really hard for
this and got a good result today.
"My ankle didn't hurt as much as I thought it was going to - I
didn't feel anything in free practice and qualifying, but in the
race it was a little tougher especially at the end because there
was a lot of pressure on me. Will Bratt was pushing me all the
time, but I made no mistakes, drove really consistently and had a
great race!"
Buoyed by his result, Snoeks even suggested there could be more
to come from tomorrow despite his injuries. "If you saw me a few
weeks ago it looked much worse," he explained. "The front wheel on
my scooter jammed, and I flipped up a hill - it was terrible!
"My ankle was fine though, and in fact in some ways I expected a
little bit more because a few times in qualifying I was on the top.
I've made a lot of progress at this circuit, which is quite tough
to drive but good fun, and I'm sure I can do a good job in the next
race and for the rest of the season."
Snoeks will take to the Brno circuit in tomorrow's early
second qualifying session, which begins at 8.55 CET, before the
final race of the weekend commences at 15.50. The official website
will bring you live timing and text commentary for both sessions,
with live video streaming of the second race also
available.
