Philipp Eng aiming for repeat performance at Donington
Eng: "I want to experience that winning feeling again"
After collecting his maiden FIA Formula Two victory in race one
at Brands Hatch last time out, Austrian Philipp Eng is hoping for a
strong weekend at Donington Park as he bids to strengthen his third
place in the championship.
Having come under severe pressure throughout the race from
championship leader Andy Soucek, Eng admits his win - and the pole
he secured - have been a massive boost to his
self-confidence.
"I have showed everyone and particularly myself that I can get
pole and win, and that's been very good for my confidence," he
said. "I wasn't expecting to do so well after Free Practice,
especially as I had never been to Brands Hatch before, so it was a
great feeling to cross the line in first. I'll be trying everything
to do that again at Donington Park next weekend."
Eng's performances saw him jump from eighth to third in the
points standings, and he is hoping to continue his championship
momentum at Donington. "I want to keep third in the championship,
but in this series everyone is so close that if I don't score
points in one race I could drop well down the order again.
Consistency is key over the course of the season, and I'll be
aiming for at least the top five in each race.
"I found some time both in myself and the car at Brands Hatch,
but there is still a lot I can do to improve. I'm not
underestimating anybody, and I'm sure guys like Soucek, Wickens and
Bortolotti are going to be very quick again, but I don't fear
anybody.
"I didn't know Brands Hatch before racing there and I came away
with two strong results, so I'm confident I can do the same at
Donington. I'm not putting any pressure on myself, but I've already
won once and I believe I can do it again."
