Christopher Zanella powered to his second Formula Two victory of
the season during the 16th and final round of the 2012 FIA Formula
Two Championship, with the Swiss leading home Kevin Mirocha and
Luciano Bacheta. That was enough to hand 22-year-old Bacheta the
championship title and with it a full test with the Williams F1
team. See what the top three had to say after the champagne had
been sprayed…
Christopher Zanella
"I'm very happy with the win. In my situation it was the best I
could do to finish the season with a victory. I got a good start
and managed to overtake for the lead and then I just tried to build
a gap. I did some doughnuts at the end which relieved a lot of
pressure - I was just so happy to win the last race!" I've had some
great moments in F2 and met some great people and it's a great way
to end.
"My goal was also to win the title this year but sometimes I have
been a little unlucky and that's just the way it goes. I'm still
working on my plans for next year but World Series by Renault is
one option we're looking at, but we'll just have to see."
Kevin Mirocha
"It was good race today but very difficult to catch Christopher,
and Luciano wascoming from behind later on so I needed a very high
concentration level. I was fighting very hard and overtook Markus
early on without any boost. Then it was just a case of managing the
tyres and the gap. I think this was probably the best we could have
done in this race but overall a great weekend. I've definitely had
a better second half of the season, possibly the strongest out of
everyone."
Luciano Bacheta
"We had a good start off the line and as soon as I got past Matheo
I felt in control and realised from that from that point on I had
the championship so I decided to go and have a good race and wanted
to push and attack. It felt really good as for the first time I was
able to just to enjoy the race rather than worry too much about the
title.
"As for winning, it's still sinking in! The first feeling was just
relief and then happiness and then every emotion! I'm still kind of
dazed by it all. To have won a Williams F1 test too is just insane!
I can't believe it and probably won't until I'm actually sat in the
car. It's just incredible and I have to say a big thank you to
Comma and the rest of my sponsors, and everyone who has helped me
this season."
