Matheo Tuscher claimed his fourth pole of the season during
today's thrilling wet/dry qualifying session at Monza, closely
followed though by championship leader Luciano Bacheta with the two
starting side-by-side for today's 21-lap race, with Kevin Mirocha
in third. Read what the top three drivers had to say after the
session…
Matheo Tuscher
"I had a good feeling on the wet tyres and think I was running P2
which was good. It took a bit of time to get them up to temperature
though as the track was still quite cold and wet in places. Before
switching onto slicks we made some changes to the set-up and I
think we did a great job to find a good set up. I did my quickest
lap on the penultimate one. On my last lap though I was faster but
in between Ascari and the Parabolica I tried to overtake Marinescu
but I couldn't and didn't improve."
Luciano Bacheta
"I'm really relieved after that session as I had a big spin
avoiding a backmarker and thought I was going to be in the wall. I
flat spotted all my tyres and damaged my car a bit but I was able
to make it back to the pits. I'm fairly sure if I hadn't of made
that spin and damaged my car I would have been ever faster but I'm
still happy to be here.
"I'll race as I always do today. That was one of the most hectic
sessions of the year at the time of the year when I really don't
need it so it feels like anything can happen this weekend, so my
plan is just to stay out of trouble, do the best I can, try and
seal it today and if need be follow him [Tuscher] home. "
Kevin Mirocha
"Today was a good result but for me qualifying was more like a
complete race! It was unbelievable. I decided to go out on slicks
straight away which I think was the right call. After the red flag
we were all going out like crazy, overtaking and outbraking each
other just to have some space and a clear lap. Third is a little
disappointing as I have been very strong so far this weekend but
given the session I'm still happy to be here."
