Mihai Marinescu has been making the most of the summer break
ahead of next month's FIA Formula Two rounds at the Hungaroring
with a programme of extreme sports, including sky diving with World
Champion Alex Nicolau.
In addition to the 3,000 metre/200kph free-fall, the 23-year-old
Romanian has also taken part in a gruelling triathlon during the
six week interval before he returns to the cockpit of his F2 car
for rounds 13 and 14 on 7-9 September.
Held at the Aurel Vlaicu - Clinceni Airfield, near Bucharest, the
sky dive invitation came from World Champion Nicolau and also
featured Romanian rally star Emanuel Gyenes. "The experience was
similar to that of my fastest lap around Brands Hatch circuit!"
said Marinescu who currently lies fifth in the F2 drivers'
standings. "It was a great feeling and I liked it very much. When
we jumped from the plane the acceleration was extraordinary and the
sensation of floating in the air was very liberating for me. I
reached 200kph before opening the parachute."
