Kazim: "I want to win this season"
Lithuanian enjoys successful weekend in Oschersleben
Despite impressively taking his first double-points haul of 2009
at Oschersleben this weekend, Kazim Vasiliauskas is still targeting
a maiden F2 win before the end of the season.
The 19-year-old scored his third podium of the campaign in race
one, and followed it up with a seventh place finish during today's
18 lap encounter: "Finally I have done it," said Kazim. "In each
weekend so far I have always had one good race and one bad race,
but now I have scored points in both races this weekend. I am very
happy but there is still lots to do. I need to improve in
qualifying as that is key if I want finish in the top three or even
take a win, and I want to win this season!"
Kazim is contesting not only his first season of international
racing, but his first full campaign of single seater racing
altogether. Currently lying eighth in the overall standings, the
young star is constantly re-evaluating his goals having
exceeded all of his pre-season expectations.
"Of course I want to win," he commented. "It is
possible to win and I have proved I can do this. I am still
learning and qualifying is something that I really need to focus
on. I am not getting the best out of the new tyres straight away
and I have also made some mistakes. I always record very good
sector times but I do not always get them all on the same lap! I
cannot afford to start races down in 11th in the future. I will
keep learning and try to find something, whilst hopefully working
towards my first win."
Kazim's potential has led some to tout him as a possible F2
championship challenger in 2010: "I have the possibility to
come back and try to win the F2 championship in my second
season," concluded Vasiliauskas. "This is a very good option
for me and maybe this is what I will do, but for now I am
focussed on getting some more good results before the end of this
season."
