Jousse sets the early pace in Barcelona
Official test day is underway in Spain
The final test day of the Formula Two season got
underway in Barcelona today (26 October), with Frenchman Julien
Jousse making the early running.
The Donington Park race winner set his time towards the end of
the second session, as the 25 drivers are currently being run in
two groups. Jousse was joined in the same session by
the recently crowned F2 champion Andy Soucek, and the Spaniard
maintained his impressive season-long form by setting the second
quickest time of the day so far.
Philipp Eng was the fastest driver from the opening grouped
session, the 19-year-old setting a time just 0.004s slower than
Soucek. Red Bull-backed Robert Wickens, who is hoping to secure
second in the championship this weekend, traded blows with
Eng before having to settle for fourth overall.
Miloš Pavlović and Mikhail Aleshin rounded out the
top six.
Carlos Iaconelli recently teamed up with his good friend
Nelson Piquet Jnr at a Monaco karting event in an
attempt to keep himself sharp ahead of the F2 season
finale, and the Brazilian showed no signs of
rustiness as he pipped the impressive Jack Clarke to
seventh.
Jason Moore recovered from a spin at turn three to secure ninth,
whilst debutant Tristan Vautier delivered one of the best
performances so far to clinch tenth. The Frenchman is driving an F2
car for the first time today and the 20-year-old set
a 1:41.001s lap time, which was good enough for a top ten
finish as the morning session came to a close.
There were several red flags during the morning as a number
of drivers had minor spins. Tobias Hegewald, Sebastian
Hohenthal, Jens Höing and Nicola De Marco were amongst
those to endure an off track moment.
There are two further 40-minute grouped sessions prior to lunch,
before all drivers take to the track together from 15.15 (local
time) onwards. Live timing can be found here and the
official Formula Two website will keep you updated throughout the
day.
