Jack Clarke predicts exciting Silverstone races
Clarke: "There's a lot of big egos and no-one will be taking any prisoners"
Britain's Jack Clarke is predicting an exciting opening to the
2010 FIA Formula Two Championship, as the first two races of the
season get underway today at Silverstone.
Clarke also admitted he was hoping to be a part of the drama, as
he bids to improve upon two accomplished qualifying performances
which will see him start today's races from eighth and fourth
respectively.
Speaking before the race, Clarke said: "There's a lot of
aggressive drivers out there, and I'm sure no-one is going to take
any prisoners so it should make for interesting racing because
there's a lot of big egos out front and a lot of quick drivers. It
will be interesting to see what happens - I think it will be worth
watching!
"You have to play the races by ear to a certain extent, but I'll
certainly be expecting to make up some positions. Considering the
two qualifying sessions, I'm already starting in points positions
for both the races and obviously points win prizes, and ultimately
I'm here to win prizes.
"The key to making up places depends on the race; it's like a
yoyo effect. If you really go out and push in the first quarter of
the race you're going to suffer towards the end with your tyres, so
I think you've got to find a good balance. I'm certainly going to
push in the first few laps, and I might get on the old magic button
and see if that creates any opportunities, but like I say I'm going
to have to play it by ear. If in the beginning I'm in touch with
the top five I'm going to push and then try and fare the rest of
the race, so we'll see how it goes - I'd be very happy with a top
five in the first race and a podium in the second!"
