Christopher Zanella ended on top during the final Formula Two
session at the Hungaroring to claim the overall honours for today's
(Thursday) pre-event test ahead of rounds 13 and 14.
The 22-year-old Swiss put in a stunning lap late in the day to
finish with a best time of 1:35.044s, a full +1.163s ahead of
Slovakian newcomer Richard Gonda who has impressed all day. Kevin
Mirocha finished third for the 60-minute sun-soaked session with
Mathéo Tuscher and Alex Fontana completing the top five.
Mihai Marinescu was the session's early pace-setter closely followed by Fontana before the Swiss shaved a full half a second off his time to go top. Markus Pommer and Dino Zamparelli were also looking quick as the halfway mark approached with some drivers still yet to take to the track - instead opting to save on tyres.
With 15 minutes remaining, Mirocha moved up into the top spot as the times continued to come down with Luciano Bacheta now up into fourth. Gonda then briefly went quickest before Zanella better him with a near perfect lap to also claim the overall honours for the day.
After his sizeable crash at Turn 4 in session two, Plamen Kralev
finished a credible sixth with Dino Zamparelli in seventh and
Marinescu in eighth. Pommer ended ninth with championship leader
Bacheta rounding out the top 10.
The F2 action continues tomorrow with the first practice session
which gets underway at 11:45 (local time) with full coverage and
live timing available on the F2 website.
