F2 drivers step back into the Ring

Title race continues at Hungaroring after summer break

After a six-week summer break, the FIA Formula Two drivers are refreshed and raring to resume the title race this weekend (7-9 September) with rounds 13 and 14 at the Hungaroring in Budapest.

The event marks the championship's maiden visit to the F1 venue which is famed for its tight, twisty and bumpy layout where overtaking and tyre management remain a real challenge - placing even more emphasis on qualifying.

Once again all eyes will be focused on championship leader Luciano Bacheta with the Brit mathematically able to secure the title this weekend and with it the prize test with the Williams F1 Team. Standing in his way though are nearest rivals Mathéo Tuscher, who became F2's youngest ever winner last time out at Paul Ricard, Christopher Zanella, Markus Pommer and Mihai Marinescu - all of whom remain in the running for the top spot.

Preparations begin with pre-event testing on Thursday where drivers will have plenty of opportunity to become accustomed to the 4.381km circuit. Joining them for the test will be Slovakian newcomer Richard Gonda, aged 18, who will be sampling the Williams designed JPH1B F2 car with a view to racing in 2013.   

After testing, it's on to the race weekend where Bacheta will be hoping to extend his 32.5 point advantage while the rest of the field will be doing all they can to stop him in his tracks.

The penultimate rounds (13 & 14) of the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship take place at the Hungaroring from 7-9 September with just one event remaining at Italy's Monza circuit on 28-30 September.
