Leading motorsport title GPUpdate.net were given a unique
opportunity to experience the full 500bhp of the 2012-spec F2 car
this week during a private test session at F2's Bedford Autodrome
headquarters.
Dutch journalist Ivo Pakvis enjoyed a full day's test in the
Williams designed machine, the exact spec being used this season,
complete with carbon disc brakes and quicker Yokohama tyres.
Pakvis began his day with a bespoke seat fitting before receiving
a driver briefing from F2 championship co-ordinator James Gornall.
This was followed by a chance to learn the 1.8-mile circuit he
would be using driving a 250bhp JP-LM Le Mans-style racer, aided by
instructor Kieren Clark who is a former Formula Renault 2.0
champion.
Over lunch he was joined by current championship leader Luciano
Bacheta who passed on some of his expert advice, as did his race
engineer for the day and team of mechanics. It was then time for
him to see just what the F2 car is capable of!
"To say it was an amazing experience, doesn't even begin to tell
the story," said 30-year-old Pakvis. "Formula 2 did everything they
could to make me feel welcome and at ease. I think for them, it was
a new experience as well. Having a complete novice in the car is
something they're probably not used to. But it didn't show and that
was a great feeling."
You can see exactly how Ivo Pakvis got on behind the wheel of the F2 car with a full feature length video coming soon to F2TV. In the meantime you can click here to view the photo gallery of the day.
