Formula Two adopts new F1 points system
World Motor Sport Council agree proposal to award points to top ten

The FIA Formula Two Championship will adopt the same points scoring system as Formula One this season following a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council today (11/03).

The top ten finishers in each race will now score points, with the winner receiving 25 points down to a single point for 10th, in the following order: 25-18-15-12-10-8-6-4-2-1.

Formula Two moved to adopt the new points system in order to place greater emphasis on race wins, and hence promote overtaking, and also to reflect the high number of cars competing in the series - priorities also shared by Formula One in 2010.

Under this season's new points system, the 2009 final standings would be remarkably similar. Andy Soucek would still have sealed the championship in the first race at Imola, whilst the Red Bull duo of Robert Wickens and Mikhail Aleshin would join him as the top three finishers. There would only be one change in the top eight order, with Mirko Bortolotti falling one place to fifth and Julien Jousse moving in the opposite direction into fourth.
