Philipp Eng: "I can't wait to get back in the car"
Austrian unfazed by spectacular barrel roll at Oschersleben. Watch it now on F2TV.
After a spectacular barrel roll in the second race at
Oschersleben - remarkably the first crash he has ever had in
motorsport - Philipp Eng could be forgiven if his confidence had
taken a knock.
The Austrian however insists that he is mentally strong enough
to have left the incident behind him almost immediately, and that
he cannot wait to get back to racing in little over a week's time
at Imola.
"I feel totally free after the accident actually," Eng
explained; "I had the crash and escaped without any real injuries,
so it hasn't done my confidence any harm at all. I'm just really
looking forward to Imola and getting back to racing.
"It was a very weird experience - the only thing I can compare
it to is a rollercoaser, but I do know it felt very wrong. If you
can imagine, this is my first ever crash; I've never even touched a
wall or damaged a wing before. I wanted to overtake Jack Clarke,
but maybe I turned in a bit too early. To be honest I had to watch
it back to find out exactly what happened, and after seeing how big
it was, I feel very lucky to have come away unhurt.
"It hasn't changed my focus, that's for sure. I had a very bad
weekend at Oschersleben, not just because of the crash but because
I didn't pick up any points, and now I have a gap to make up. For
me the championship is probably over, but I am targeting at least
second place. In my position I'm going to have to win or pick up
podiums in the remaining four races, but I'll keep pushing until it
is over and I think second in the championship is realistic."
