Duncan Tappy targets F2 drive this season
Briton impressed with the Formula Two operation
Duncan Tappy believes he can be a contender for the title this
season, as the British racer looks to graduate to the 2010 FIA
Formula Two Championship.
The 25-year-old won the Formula Ford Festival in 2005 before
going on to secure the Formula Renault 2.0 UK title in 2007. Since
then the talented British racer has competed in Formula Renault 3.5
and Superleague Formula - taking three podiums in the latter.
"Formula Two is definitely what I am pushing to do this season,"
said Tappy. "It is at the top of the list but we still need to
raise some finances. Things are going reasonably well in that area
and hopefully we will know more in the coming weeks.
"F2 is a very impressive championship - I want to make a career
out of motorsport and I believe that F2 gives me the opportunity to
get as high as possible in single seaters."
Tappy enjoyed his Formula Two debut at the recent Portimao test
in December. The Englishman ran well in Portugal and ended up sixth
fastest overall - just over two tenths slower than the ultimate
pace setter Kazim Vasiliauskas.
"The F2 car is very nice and comfortable to drive," noted
Duncan. "I got out of the cockpit with a big smile on my face after
each session, which is the important thing. I had a few sessions to
get used to the turbo as it was my first experience with such a
system, and things seemed to go pretty well."
Like several drivers aiming to be on the F2 grid for 2010, Tappy
is targeting the title in his maiden season and the prize of a test
drive with the Williams F1 Team.
"The F2 package is very good," he concluded. "The Formula One
test is a really big thing to aim for as it will hopefully open
doors. I don't want to be competing for the odd podium and I will
not be racing just to make up the numbers - I plan to be
challenging for the title."
