Nicola De Marco given five place grid penalty
Italian demoted after setting fastest lap under yellows
De Marco has been handed a five place grid penalty for today's
race after a stewards' review found he had set his best time of the
session under yellow flag conditions.
Data taken from De Marco's car suggested he had not lifted from
the throttle through the yellow flag zone, leading stewards to
issue him with a five place penalty. He will now start from eighth,
having initially secured third on the grid - his best qualifying
performance since Brno in June.
The Italian has been in good form in Spain, and earlier today
took fourth in the second qualifying session. He currently lies
12th in the championship standings, but insisted in yesterday's
press conference that his focus is on securing tenth as the season
comes to a close.
