Damon Hill backs Formula Two
Former F1 champion and BRDC President hails concept

The Formula Two name returns in 2009 after a 25 year absence and ex-Formula One world champion Damon Hill has hailed the championship as "affordable but significant."
The tender to supply chassis and engines for the new FIA Formula Two Championship was awarded to Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision (MSV) organisation in September and Palmer himself won the Formula Two championship back in 1983: "It is entirely appropriate that Jonathan's company will be running the series," said Hill. "Particularly with Jonathan's fantastic history in Formula Two but also because of his experience in running the Formula Palmer Audi Championship."
"It is an affordable but significant championship which is great. Sometimes talent is not enough in this sport, which is a shame, but it seems that F2 will help to provide drivers with a fairer playing field."
Damon Hill's son Josh won his first motor race at Snetterton on Sunday in a Ginetta Junior, and Hill recognises the difficulties drivers face when trying to find funds to progress their career: "The enormous sums required for the likes of GP2 are not easy for people to find," he added. "F2 looks as though it will help with this but the championship will still be of a very high standard within the motorsport ladder."
Hill spoke to formulatwo.com on the day that Lewis Hamilton became the first British F1 champion since Damon himself won the championship with a Patrick Head-engineered Williams back in 1996. Head is currently leading a team of Williams engineers in the design and build of the new F2 car: "It will be a magnificent car if Patrick has anything to do with it," said Hill. "I would really like to have a go in the car myself!"
