Alex Brundle hoping to hit form in race two
Alex: "I'm really homing in on what I need to achieve"
Alex Brundle is hoping to hit form and pick up crucial
championship points in the second race at Oschersleben today (6
September).
The 19-year-old Briton will start today's race from sixth - his
second best grid position of the season - and believes his strong
form this weekend indicates that he is finding consistency towards
the end of the season.
"I'm really happy to be starting sixth," Brundle admitted. "I've
never even see Oschersleben before, so to turn up and have one of
my best sessions of the year was really good.
"I think the key to the race will be to get a good start, then
just really concentrate, drive very calmly and not make any
mistakes. The first corner is slightly mental here - a 90 degree
left that you probably lose 100mph braking for - so if I can get
through that okay I'll be happy. The guys at the back almost have
no chance if something happens in front of them!"
Having scored points in the opening race at Valencia, and
finished fifth at Spa Francorchamps, Alex admits inconsistency has
been his main complaint of the season. "I'm just kind of finding my
way at the moment," he commented. "This is my first year in
international single seaters, and I kind of hit form at some rounds
and not so much at others.
"It might confuse people watching me, but it's just because
sometimes I find my way and I'm always trying new things. The
important thing is that I'm really homing in now on what I need to
achieve, so I'm happy.
"At this level consistency is probably the hardest thing to
find. The field is so close, so what would have been deemed
consistency at a lower level is inconsistency here. To be honest
when you're building yourself up and finding your way it's the
consistency that suffers, and I know that on my good day I can
drive against, and challenge, some of the best young drivers in the
world. It's just a case of doing that on a regular basis."
Race two of the FIA Formula Two Championship at
Oscherleben commences today at 13.50 CET, with live streaming
