Bortlotti aiming for a win on home soil
Red Bull racer on a charge in Imola
Mirko Bortolotti will start today's opening F2 race in Imola
from the front row and the Italian driver is hoping home advantage
can push him to victory.
The Red Bull-backed racer was in top form throughout practice
and qualifying yesterday (Friday), but he narrowly missed out on
pole position after being pipped by Kazim Vasiliauskas. "I am
happy with my performance," said Mirko. "Starting from the front
row is always good and hopefully I can at least get a podium, but I
hope for something more."
"I have had a really good pace all day yesterday and I think
this bodes well for the races. I was a little upset after
qualifying because I really felt I could have had pole, but it is
still a good result. Kazim took the pole and I congratulate him,
but now I hope to beat him in the race."
Spurred on by a passionate home support at the historical Imola
circuit, Bortolotti's confidence has been further bolstered this
weekend: "I always want to win whatever country I am racing in, but
of course it is special to be here in Italy," he noted.
"For me, Italy has the most beautiful circuits, the most
beautiful cars, in fact the most beautiful everything! Of course, I
am a little bias but I am sure everyone feels the same way about
racing in their own country. It will give me such a huge boost
racing here in Imola, which is hard to explain. I want to use this
as a positive force and get good results from both races."
