Armaan Ebrahim: “I can't wait to get back in the F2 car!”
Indian racer looks forward to the 2010 Formula Two season
Armaan Ebrahim is eagerly anticipating the 2010 FIA Formula Two
Championship and is looking to build upon his
encouraging maiden campaign.
"I can't wait to get back in the F2 car," said Armaan. "I have
had one year in international motorsport and I think it went pretty
well. Now I need to focus on being more consistent and make sure I
am running at the front on a regular basis. It is always difficult
to make predictions but it would be nice to aim for some race wins
this year."
The 20-year-old scored seven championship points during the 2009
campaign, with Brno in the Czech Republic his best weekend of all.
Ebrahim shot through the field, improving by an incredible total of
24 places over the two races to claim sixth in each from 19th and
17th on the grid respectively.
"We had really good pace at Brno," noted Ebrahim. "Even in the
wet we were running in the top ten during practice, but then I made
a small mistake and spun in qualifying. I was only six tenths off
the pole position time, but that still left me way down the field.
I was still pretty confident though and I proved my pace in the
races. I got great starts in both and things just seemed to go my
way."
Such form confirmed Armaan's reputation as one of India's best
young racing prospects and further impressive performances followed
at Donington Park, Oschersleben and finally Barcelona, where he
finished inside the top ten on both occasions and enjoyed his best
qualifying of the year.
"The most important thing was that I made progress throughout
the season," commented the Indian. "I just got quicker and
quicker during 2009, which was really pleasing. I claimed my
best qualifying result of the season with ninth in the final race
at Barcelona and I was only four tenths of a second away from pole.
These are all encouraging signs and now I hope to really push on in
my second year in the championship."
Ebrahim is excited about various enhancements to the 2010
Championship including the introduction of a new and improved
Williams JPH1B Formula Two car and a number of new circuits on the
race calendar.
"I have seen that Andy (Soucek) has found a second with the car
already and that they expect to find another two, which is very
exciting. The car was already quick last year but any improvement
can only be great news for the championship.
"Racing at Monza and Silverstone will be great. Both tracks are
extremely fast and challenging, and it is always nice to race at
Grand Prix circuits with a lot of history. I am looking forward to
returning to Brno too, but new experiences at places like Zolder
will also be good. I can't wait - I have had a nice relaxing time
back in India during the winter but I really want the season to
start now!"
