Markus Pommer continued his dominance of today's (Thursday) official Formula Two test session at Portimão to top the timesheets during the third session.
The 21-year-old German took advantage of the now dry track conditions to post a best time of 1:35.265s, a mere 0.048s ahead of second place David Zhu with Polish racer Kevin Mirocha in third with the top 10 all lapping inside one second.
With this morning's rain now passed, drivers were left with a dry line for the start of the third session and the chance to run on slick Yokohama tyres. Times were instantly on par with the best pole time from 2010 (1:35.193s, Jolyon Palmer,) with Pommer again showing good early pace followed by Zhu and Luciano Bacheta.
Mirocha, Christopher Zanella and Mihai Marinescu were all enjoying strong pace before a brief stoppage following a spin by the 2011 F2 runner-up. The session resumed with 10 minutes remaining but no one was able to better Pommer's time leaving the German to claim a clean sweep of all the sessions so far.
Bacheta, who's been steadily improving throughout the day, finished fourth ahead of Swiss racer Alex Fontana. Despite his spin midway through the session, Zanella finished P6 ahead of Marinescu, Plamen Kralev, Mathéo Tuscher and Daniel McKenzie.
The final test session, where overboost is enabled, begins at 16:05 (local time) with full coverage, including live timing, on the F2 website www.formulatwo.com.
