F2 heads to Portimão as title fight intensifies

Complete entry list revealed for this weekend's rounds in the Algarve

After a thrilling season opener at Silverstone, the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship travels to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve this weekend (27/28/29 April) for rounds three and four.

Commonly referred to as the Portimão Circuit, F2 last visited the track in 2010 when Jolyon Palmer and eventual F2 champion Dean Stoneman shared the spoils. Costing €195 million and designed by Ricardo Pina Arquitectos, the major new track remains a favourite with drivers for its undulating nature as well as the overtaking opportunities presented by its width.

This weekend Luciano Bacheta, who will be celebrating his 22nd birthday, will be hoping to extend his championship lead after completing a superb double win last time out. Christopher Zanella, Mihai Marinescu and Alex Fontana - who all secured podiums that weekend - will also be hoping for strong results at the Portuguese track and to keep the Briton firmly within their sights.

Swiss driver Mathéo Tuscher, who became the youngest F2 driver to start from pole at Silverstone, is also expected to feature near the front along with Markus Pommer, Kourosh Khani and the British trio of Dino Zamparelli, Hector Hurst and Daniel McKenzie.

Rookies David Zhu, Kevin Mirocha and Mauro Calamia will be eager to continue their strong pace from Silverstone with returning drivers Parthiva Sureshwaren and Plamen Kralev also keen to secure their first points of the new season.

Two new additions join the F2 grid this weekend with Russian Max Snegirev returning to the series after a promising debut last year along with Brazilian newcomer Victor Guerin. Both will have plenty of time to learn the track with official testing on Thursday (26 April) followed by two 45-minute practice sessions on Friday ahead of the weekend's two races and standalone qualifying sessions.

Live coverage of both races will be available on Motors TV as well as the official F2 website where fans can also catch up on the latest news, images and videos.
