After a thrilling season opener at Silverstone, the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship travels to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve for rounds three and four this weekend (28/29 April).
Costing €195 million and designed by Ricardo Pina Arquitectos, the track, commonly referred to as the Portimão Circuit, opened in October 2008 and was last visited by F2 in 2010 when Jolyon Palmer and Dean Stoneman took a win apiece.
The circuit has already attracted a wide range of high profile championships, in addition to hosting Formula One testing, while this year it provides the venue for series such as the FIA World Touring Car Championship, the FIA GT1 World Championship and Le Mans.
The 4.648km layout continues to receive a number of positive
reviews from drivers, particularly for the undulating nature of the
circuit and the overtaking opportunities presented because of the
width of the track.
