Having mightily impressed in the 2009
Formula Palmer Audi Championship, where he scored six wins, Tristan
Vautier enjoyed a fairytale weekend in Barcelona, as the young
Frenchman stood in for Edoardo Piscopo for the final round of the
F2 season.
Vautier laid down an early marker in Monday's official test day at
Barcelona, the Frenchman finishing fastest in one session and
seventh fastest overall. Tristan was learning rapidly and he ran
consistently inside the top eight during free practice before
clinching a brilliant fifth and eighth on the grid for qualifying.
A superb start in race one propelled him into third on the run down
to the first corner, and he held on despite heavy pressure from
Julien Jousse to take a sensational podium in his first ever F2
race!
He continued to impress in the second race, putting in an assured
drive to move from eighth to sixth and secure his second points
finish of the weekend, showcasing his defensive skills again by
holding off Red Bull race winner Mikhail Aleshin. Tristan Vautier -
the next Alain Prost? Clearly an outstanding talent.
