The youngest driver in the field this season, Tom Gladdis came
to F2 having competed in Formula BMW in 2007 and Star Mazda in
2008. Despite his lack of experience, the determined 18-year-old
had a good first year in Formula Two with several strong
performances, including a maiden points finish in only the third
race of the season at Brno.
Gladdis achieved that result after starting from 13th on the grid,
passing several drivers to find himself in eighth position. He came
under pressure from Robert Wickens in the closing stages but was
able to defend well to claim his first points score. Further
success followed at Spa-Francorchamps, where he recorded a season's
best finish of sixth. Again, it was his manner as much as the
result that impressed, Gladdis improving a total of nine places
after starting from 15th.
Tom was unable to replicate such heroics in the latter races of the
season, but demonstrated remarkable pace and maturity for a driver
so young and with such limited experience, having only started
racing two years ago.
