Robert Wickens came to F2 as one of the elite trio from the Red Bull junior team, a privilege earnt following wins in a host of single seater series including A1GP, Formula Renault 3.5 and Champ Car Atlantics. Despite being only 20-years-old, Robert's mission was clear - to win the championship.

Wickens started the year in stunning form, taking pole for the opening two races of the season in Valencia before going on to collect two dominant lights-to-flag victories. It was just the result he wanted - and in front of FIA President Max Mosley and Williams' Director of Engineering Patrick Head who presented his trophies.

Unfortunately the next two events produced just one third place at Spa. At both Brno and Spa Robert overheated his clutch and barely got off the line, substantial accidents ensuing on both occasions. However at Brands Hatch he hauled himself back into contention with a 2nd and 4th, though Donington was fruitless after an engine failure in race one and an accident in race two. Wickens then finished the season in style, claiming three consecutive poles and two podiums in the final three races. He ended the year as a superb runner-up in the championship.
