Pietro Gandolfi joined Formula Two in only his third full season
of single seater racing, after two seasons spent contesting the
Formula Renault 2.0 Suisse Championship.
The Italian found the fierce competition of F2 a tough challenge,
which was perhaps not surprising considering his modest successes
previously. Nevertheless he enjoyed his best weekend at the famous
Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, where a solid drive in the
opening race saw him move through the field from 23rd to 14th at
the finish. He backed this up with 17th in the second race, before
further good finishes of 18th at Brands Hatch and 15th at Donington
Park.
The latter part of the season proved to be a little tougher,
however, as Pietro only managed to finish two of the last six
races. Despite this the 21-year-old remained positive throughout
the season, and ended his campaign on a high after managing to hold
off a recovering Miloš Pavlović until the very last lap
at Barcelona.
