Despite only joining Formula Two for the final three events of
the championship, Ollie Hancock, who won the BARC Formula Renault
Championship in 2008, wasted no time getting to grips with his car
as he recorded a superb top ten finish at the first time out in
Oschersleben.
The Briton started his first race from 22nd on the grid, but
demonstrated fantastic race craft to work his way up the order into
tenth and then good defensive skills to hold off a charging Natacha
Gachnang in the closing stages. He impressed again in race two,
showing good pace as he formed part of a five-car strong group
challenging for 14th place.
He came close to repeating his heroics at Imola, improving 11
places in the second race to come from 22nd on the grid to 11th at
the chequered flag - finishing just fractions behind Philipp Eng in
tenth. He was not quite so competitive in Barcelona, but he will no
doubt be encouraged by such strong early showings that defied his
lack of experience in the category.
