Edoardo Piscopo joined Formula Two
after a highly accomplished year in Italian Formula 3, where he
scored seven wins and 11 podiums on his way to finishing runner-up
in the series.
The Italian, who lived in Oxford during the season, is no stranger
to relocating in order to race, having moved to America at the age
of 16 to compete in the Formula BMW USA series. He made a solid
start to his campaign, finishing seventh in two of the opening
three races and qualifying within the top eight on every occasion.
He then enjoyed his best result of 2009 in the second race at Brno,
finishing fourth and narrowly missing out on a maiden podium after
running third in the closing stages of the race.
Such storming drives became the hallmark of his season, and he
claimed his fifth points finish of the year at Spa-Francorchamps,
scything through the field to finish eighth after starting from
19th. He added to this with two top eight finishes at Brands Hatch,
becoming the only driver other than Andy Soucek to finish inside
the points in six of the opening eight races. Impressive
performances at Donington Park followed, the Italian finishing
fourth in race one and qualifying fifth for race two - his best
result of the year. He ended the season 12th overall, having missed
the final round at Barcelona.
