Alex made an immediate impression at the first Snetterton test
using his
local circuit knowledge to set the third fastest time, despite
being another to
graduate straight from Formula Palmer Audi. He went on to drive a
storming
race at Valencia to take a point by clinching eighth place first
time out.
Alex built upon his impressive opening with a sensational
performance in
qualifying at Spa-Francorchamps, claiming eighth for race one
before snatching
fourth place for the second race of the weekend. In the latter race
he ran as
high as third after an audacious move away from the start on Robert
Wickens,
and he eventually claimed fifth at the chequered flag - his best
result of the
season. The weekend could have been even better, but for a
collision with
Philipp Eng whilst challenging for sixth in the opening race.
More demonstrations of his great potential followed at Oschersleben
and
Imola, where Brundle qualified inside the top ten for three of the
four races and
indeed he could well have taken his first podium at Imola after a
charging drive,
had he not been a victim of dropped oil from Bortolotti, who was
just ahead,
and gone off.
