Plamen Kralev is one of Bulgaria's leading motorsport figures,
having been elected in 2008 by the National Tourism Agency as his
country's official global motorsport ambassador.
Kralev's racing career began relatively recently in 2007 when he
competed in the Ferrari Challenge Coppa Shell, where he scored two
race wins and took two pole positions in his first season. He
returned to the series the following year with great success,
taking two wins, two podiums and four pole positions from eight
races. He also enjoyed success in a variety of other series,
winning races in the Ferrari Challenge Italia series and competing
in selected FIA GT3 races.
In 2009 Kralev announced he would be competing in the
International GT Open in his Ferrari 430 GT2. The same year he also
made history by becoming the first Bulgarian ever to compete in the
prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing 11th in his Porsche 911
GT3.
At the end of 2009 he made the move into the GP2 Asia Series,
where he raced with Trident Racing. He made solid progress
throughout the series, closing the gap between himself and the
frontrunners by around three seconds over the eight races.
That precipitated a move into Formula Two in 2010 where he made
good progress, challenging for top 10s and securing his maiden
points finish at Monza after coming through the field from 17th on
the grid to 10th at the flag. He returned to F2 in 2011 where he
was again challenging for points with a number of solid
performances, particularly in the second half of the season. His
best moment came at Austria's Red Bull Ring where he recorded his
second ever points finish, moving from the back of the field in
race one and making up a record 12 places to cross the line
10th.
