Christopher Zanella rejoins the 2012 FIA Formula Two Championship after an outstanding performance last year to finish as runner-up and secure a prize GP2 test, together with eligibility for an FIA Super Licence.
From the very start of the season the Swiss racer looked at ease
in his Williams JPH1B car, settling into his stride to record a
podium in only his second race. He followed that up in Magny-Cours
with a magnificent double victory to take the championship
lead.
Four straight podiums followed at Spa and the Nűrburgring as
Christopher took the title fight to Mirko Bortolotti, keeping him
honest right up until the penultimate rounds at Monza. In total
Christopher amassed a total of 15 points finishes from 16 races -
one away from Bortolotti and bettering that of past champions Andy
Soucek and Dean Stoneman.
Before that he won the 2008 Formula Renault 2.0 Switzerland
Championship, whilst also competing in selected Eurocup Formula
Renault 2.0 races. From here he graduated to Formula Three in the
Euro Series with the Motopark Academy team and claimed his first
podium finish at the final round in Hockenheim.
He continued to race occasionally in the F3 Euro Series in 2010
alongside a full campaign in the Italian Formula 3 Championship,
where he finished sixth overall.
