Tom Gladdis returns to Formula Two for a third season, following
a successful maiden year in 2009 and a bit-part in the series in
2010.
Remarkably the 20-year-old's career only began in 2007, after he
won a scholarship to compete in Formula BMW. He also competed in
Star Mazda in 2008, taking one race victory and three podiums over
the season.
At the age of 18 Tom stepped up to Formula Two for his first
season of international single seaters in 2009, making him the
youngest driver on the inaugural F2 grid. Despite his young age and
relative inexperience Tom demonstrated great ability and potential,
taking impressive points finishes at Brno and Spa-Francorchamps to
finish 20th in the overall standings.
Despite only contesting three rounds in 2010, Tom's talent and
speed were again evident as he challenged for the points on several
occasions. His best weekend came at Brands Hatch, Gladdis finishing
fifth in the opening race before competing for the victory in race
two - eventually finishing just 0.545s behind racewinner Philipp
Eng.
He ran well again at Brno, lining up from eighth and 11th for
the respective two races, but could not add to his tally as he
finished 12th in both contests. Having
demonstrated remarkable pace and maturity for a driver so
young and with such limited experience, Tom will be keen to compete
at the sharp end of the grid in 2011.
