26-year-old Julian Theobald joined F2 for the first time at the
second official mid-season test at Brands Hatch in July 2010,
before staying in the series to contest the next three rounds at
Brands Hatch, Brno and Oschersleben, where he was joined by younger
brother Johannes. Julian quickly got to grips with the Williams F2
car and he achieved a best finish of 13th at Brno.
Theobald has extensive experience in single seaters, having first
raced in the Formula König series in 2002, and has raced in a
variety of championships including Formula Renault 2.0 Germany and
the Formula 3 Euroseries Trophy class - which he won in 2006,
claiming a superb six wins and nine podiums from the nine
races.
After that success, Julian moved into Formula Renault 3.5 with the
EuroInternational squad. He stayed in the championship the
following year, switching to the Fortec Motorsport squad - although
he was only able to contest four races.
Theobald's participation in F2 follows a season on the sidelines in
2009, but the 25-year-old German was able to get to grips quickly
with the Williams JPH1B F2 car in official testing at the circuit.
He will be looking to build upon that experience and spring a
surprise at the Kent venue as he makes his race debut in Formula
Two.
