Spanish youngster Ramón Piñeiro joined Formula Two
for the very final round of 2010, at his home circuit of Valencia.
Despite being just 18-year-old, and having considerably less
experience than many of his rivals, Piñeiro excelled from
the outset - running inside the top ten in free practice and
securing a fantastic points finish in the second race.
Piñeiro signalled his intentions early on by setting the
tenth fastest time in second free practice, and he duly built upon
such early promise with two impressive qualifying displays which
left him 13th and 12th for the respective two races. In race one
Ramón suffered away from the line and dropped to the back of
the order, but fought back to pass Kralev, Kowalska and Clarke on
his way to finishing 15th.
A better start saw him move into 11th after the opening lap of
race two, before Piñeiro again demonstrated great race craft
to pass Philipp Eng and move into tenth - earning his maiden points
in the process.
Ramón will enjoy another taste of F2 machinery when he
receives his prize of a test in the Williams JPH1B, awarded to him
after a superb season saw him finish third in Formula Palmer Audi.
The Spaniard remained in contention for the title heading into the
very final round, where he picked up his second and third race wins
of the season to consolidate the final step on the championship
podium.
