Belgium, located in northern Europe between the borders of France
and Germany, is home to the headquarters of the European Union, as
well as a number of international organisations including NATO. The
country has a complex system of governance that reflects its
political history, with a number of cultural groups in existence
including French, German, Dutch and Flemish speakers. The country
was originally formed as a Roman province of Gaul in the first
century BC, and has since been the subject of several territorial
disputes. Belgium is now a federal state after several reforms over
the last 40 years.

Zolder - Why Go?
Belgium has a tremendously rich artistic culture,
having seen the flourishing of a number of major artistic and
cultural movements over the centuries Jan van Eyck
and René Magritte being two of their most famous
exports. Modern day Belgium has similar significance as the base
for the headquarters of the European Union, with the European
Parliament situated in Belgium's capital of Brussels. Belgium also
has rich culinary traditions, and its brands of both chocolate and
beer are world renowned.
Zolder is situated around 75km to the east of Brussels, in the
highly multicultural region of Heusden-Zolder. The region features
several landmark buildings including the Meylandt castle, now used
as an art school, and the De Veen athletics stadium. The circuit
itself, also known as Circuit Terlaemen, is an undulating 4km track
located near the rich Vogelzangbos forests. Zolder hosted Formula
One on ten separate occasions in the 1970s and 1980s, and has a
corner named in honour of Gilles Villeneuve after the Canadian
tragically lost his life at the circuit in 1982.
Useful Information
Brussels remains the main air terminal in Belgium,
although Zolder is only 75km east of the capital and well
connected by the A3 and then A2 highways. Zolder has a
typically temperate climate, with the average temperature in June
being around 17 degrees Celsius. However the country also
experiences higher rainfall in the summer months, and the regular
showers could make for highly unpredictable conditions during the
races.
Formula Two arrives at Zolder, one of Belgium's premier race
circuits, for rounds seven and eight of the 2010 season. Tickets
start from €8 per person, with free entry for children aged 11
and under and discounts available for under 17s. To book tickets
